Hello, I am Kit Birks, many people will know me as an adventurer and activist.

However, when I am not out on challenges and exploring the world, I am normally found creating. I started writing poetry 4 years ago when I began to recover from drug and alcohol addiction. I had never been much of a writer nor was I academic at school in the slightest. But writing became this outlet that allowed me to express my feelings in a way that felt less scary than saying the words out loud. Poetry became this beautiful tool that gave me the ability to show my pain, hurt, fear, sadness, returning hope, joy and happiness, which in turned helped me and continues to help me heal. Now I have written hundreds of poems and even published a book called ‘Burnt Toast’ which is a collection of my poetry.

Alongside the writing I also started to paint a few years ago, I needed a new creative outlet after my bipolar diagnosis and painting really helped. It was a new way of expression that felt less focused and more free. I love getting outside with a canvas, paintbrush and spray paint and just seeing where my mind takes me. I then started to combine making abstract art with small poems and it seems people started to really like them. Some are little poems that can be found in my book, others are funny quotes I have written down after hearing them from friends or strangers passing by, some are sentences that I jot down in various notebooks.

These painting are for sale! Some are already sold as you will see.

In the future I plan to make prints, create more paintings and even open up for commissions! So watch this space.
